Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) Announcement

Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) Announcement

The Department of Home Affairs today announced a change to their skilled occupations list – the introduction of a Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List, or PMSOL.

Subclass 482 applications where a person is nominated in respect of one of the above PMSOL occupations will receive priority processing.

The PMSOL list is intended to allow small numbers of sponsored skilled workers to return to Australia to fill urgent skills needs in critical sectors, helping to create Australian jobs and rebuild Australia’s economy.

There are 17 occupations on the PMSOL, namely:

·          Chief Executive or Managing Director (111111)

·          Construction Project Manager (133111)

·          Mechanical Engineer (233512)

·          General Practitioner (253111)

·          Resident Medical Officer (253112)

·          Psychiatrist (253411)

·          Medical Practitioner nec (253999)

·          Midwife (254111)

·          Registered Nurse (Aged Care) (254412)

·          Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency) (254415)

·          Registered Nurse (Medical) (254418)

·          Registered Nurse (Mental Health) (254422)

·          Registered Nurse (Perioperative) (254423)

·          Registered Nurses nec (254499)

·          Developer Programmer (261312)

·          Software Engineer (261313)

·          Maintenance Planner (312911)

Existing skilled migration occupation lists will remain active and visas will still be processed, but priority will be given to those in occupations on the PMSOL.

In addition, visa holders who have been sponsored by an Australia business in a PMSOL occupation are more likely to be granted an exemption from Australia’s travel restrictions.

They will, however, still be subject to the 14 days quarantine on arrival and this will be at their own expense.

The Government has also confirmed that an additional labour market testing (LMT) requirement will be enforced for PMSOL occupations. In addition to the current requirements of two advertisements placed on national recruitment websites, employers must also advertise their vacancy on the Government’s JobActive website.

If you have an employee who you are looking to sponsor for a 482 visa, or who has a pending 482 application with the Department, please contact us and we will be pleased to advise on the possibility of an application under a PMSOL occupation, or a travel ban exemption request.
