Accessing the Global Talent Scheme

Accessing the Global Talent Scheme

What is the Global Talent Scheme?

The Global Talent – Employer Sponsored scheme (“Scheme”) is a select offering within the Temporary Skills Shortage (“TSS”) program.

The Scheme allows approved employers to sponsor overseas workers for niche, highly-skilled positions that cannot be filled either by Australian workers or through alternative visa programs.

The primary purpose of the Scheme is to facilitate access (by Australian businesses) to overseas talent.

The Scheme also benefits the local economy as any position filled through the Scheme must provide opportunities for Australians, either by creating new jobs for Australians or upskilling Australian workers.

What is the difference between the Scheme and other offerings within the TSS program?

The standard TSS program is designed to allow an employer to sponsor skilled workers for occupations on an approved list.

However, the Australian government recognises the growing need for highly-specialised workers from unique industries. As such, under the Scheme, approved employers can nominate an individual for a role that is not on the approved list.
